Un peu d'historique, A little history

Cette carte date de 1646. En ce temps là, Jau Diganc et Loirac était une île sur la Gironde. Si les vignes avaient alors existé, elles auraient vu, selon la formule consacrée, l'eau  de tous côtés à la fois !

De nos jours, elles peuvent encore apercevoir Royan, Meschers et, à défaut des antiques gabarres qui transportaient les fûts de façon pas toujours très régulières, lourds bateaux  qui remontent l'estuaire.

Cette situation privilégiée aura pourtant, quelques siècles plus tard, un intérêt géologique  évident, celui de laisser subsister les magnifiques buttes de graves sur lesquelles naquit la propriété. 

En effet, en 1979, les 17 mètres de profondeur de cailloux ayant attiré la convoitise des exploitants de carrières, la vente fut annulée, la mairie ayant refusé le permis d'exploitation.

Jean-Pierre MONNIER s'en porta acquéreur et rendit à cette "longue haie" (signification du mot SEGUE LONGUE en patois médocain), une destinée qu'elle n'avait perdue par l'arrachage des "hybride" quelques décennies auparavant.

 This chart goes back to 1646. In this time there, Jau-Dignac et Loirac were an island on the Gironde. If the vines had then existed, they would have seen, according to the devoted formula, the water on all the sides to the time! 

Nowadays, they can still see Royan, Meschers and, in the absence of the antiques gabarres which transported the barrels of way not always very regular, heavy boats which was born the property.

This privileged situation will however have, a few centuries later, an obvious geological interest, that to let remain the splendid low register hillocks on which was born  the property.

Indeed, in 1979, the 17meters of depth of stones having attracted the covetousness of careers, the sale was cancelled, the town hall having refused the licence of exploitation.

Jean-Pierre MONNIER became purchaser and returned from there to this <<long hedge>> (significance of Sègue Longue in patois médocain), a destiny which it had lost only by the pulling up of <<the hybrids>> a few decades before.
